Toby read law at Oxford University and did an LLM at King’s College London. He was an Astbury Scholar of the Middle Temple. He was called to the Bar in 1996.

Riccardo studied economics at the University of Nottingham, he did a masters degree in philosophy at the University of London, and he studied law at College of Law and at City Law School. He was a Buchanan Scholar and a Wolfson Scholar of Lincoln's Inn. He was called to the Bar in 2013.

The Middle Temple and Lincoln's Inn are, along with Gray's Inn and the Inner Temple, honourable societies of barristers with a long and distinguished historical tradition. The Inns of Court, whose records date back to 1422 and whose existence is thought to have commenced in the early fourteenth century, are recognised across the world as the most prestigious professional associations for lawyers.
